Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems concerning matters such as existence, knowledge, truth, beauty, law, justice, validity, mind, and language. Philosophy is distinguished from other ways of addressing these questions (such as mysticism or mythology) by its critical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on reasoned argument. Philosophy comes from the Greek φιλοσοφία [philosophia], which literally translates to "love of wisdom". From Wikipedia under the

Asked by Jill Anne A - Sun Dec 2 08:07:21 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. "We are all born as philosophers, we only cease to be one when we think we are right, but I'm probably wrong." I'm into philosophy as a hobby, and to me it could be the act of opening your mind to limitless possibilities, like asking questions without the need for answers. To the pessimist, this could be seen as asking questions that don't need to be asked. To the optimist, it may be viewed as the ultimate way of finding out what the human mind has to offer, without the need to actually identify its boundaries. I think you have the makings to be a great philosopher, you are asking how to fully understand a subject that will probably never be fully understood, there could always be a new page to write. This all seems ironic that I'm telling… [cont.] Answered by Paul H - Sun Dec 2 08:42:25 2007 How does Christianity impact philosophy if they have nothing to do with eachother? Q. So I was told Christianity has helped mold philosophy but I cant understand how that is when they are 2 totally different things. Didnt philosophy occur waaay before Chiristianity, or is it the other way around? But really how does Christianity or "religion" tie into philosophy? I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with anything. I'm not trying to form an opinion; I'm simply just asking for understanding. Asked by twentyfourhourforeplay - Thu Oct 23 19:27:54 2008 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments A. The purported goal of both is to seek truth. Personally I think Christianity doesn't seek truth so much as declare what it thinks it is, but that's beside the point. Prior to the 19th century most philosophies rooted all truths in natural truth, i.e. God. The ideas that loving your neighbor is good, greed is bad, sexual promiscuity is bad, etc. have no objective truth, they are simply declared to be basic truths by Christianity. Philosophies were molded around these ideas for centuries. It wasn't really until the existentialists that we started to break free of the template and start to come up with other bases for basic truths, or lack of basic truths. Q. My philosophy on life is that we should leave it better than when we got here. In other words we're put on this world to help our fellow man. What do you think makes life worth living despite all of the problems and strife that we have to endure??? Asked by Kathryn R - Mon Feb 9 16:45:11 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. try and understand everything you can but realize that no matter how hard you try you will fall short but be happy with the knowledge you were able to obtain with the time you had. their are times when you will shine and times when you will fade its not giving up during the time in between and after that makes the difference Answered by Jimmy - Mon Feb 9 17:04:54 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Philosophy" Quotes regarding Philosophy and philosophers: Sourced
