how does the biosphere, hydrosphere, and the atmosphere affect plate tectonics?
Q. thanks peace & love babyyy
Asked by Rachel R - Sat Feb 10 14:27:18 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. they don't have much effect on plate tectonics since it is driven by internal phenomena inside the earths crust. tectonic movements are caused by magma flow inside the layers of the earth. and since the radius of the earth is somewhere around 6000 km (about 3750 miles) these layers, that are so thin (around 20 km, or 13 miles) are insignificant by comparison. think of it as if a straw was trying to affect the movement of an 18 wheels truck ...

Q. I have to do a powerpoint for school and I need answers quick. How does Mt. Fuji affect the lithosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere? It's really hard for me to research this because Mt. Fuji hasn't erupted since 1707. If you have any answers please tell me.

A. Incidentally, that is a very pathetic attempt at an excuse to get me to do your homework. There are thousands of volcanoes that haven't erupted in a long time, and you can learn all about them. Lithosphere --> Fuji receives magma through the lithosphere. The weight of the mountain presses down on the lithosphere as it searches to reach isostatic equilibrium ("upward force equals downward force") Biosphere --> Lava flows can directly impact habitats, geothermal fluids can make surface waters more acidic, gases (if concentrated enough) can affect plant growth. Hydrosphere --> During eruptions, can release water vapor (as steam) into the atmosphere, which will enter the hydrologic cycle as rain. As mentioned, fluids can chance acidity. … [cont.]

A. Try not to think of those terms as items, but more as categories that encompass different aspects of the earth. Now, about how those categories affect the biosphere. The hydrosphere, the sphere of influence that deals with water in its various forms (some separate out ice and call that the cryosphere), provides the biosphere with a much needed component...water. Life would not exist as we know it without water. It places in important role for all organisms, alongside playing an important role in various earth processes. The lithosphere deals with the earth itself, or land. Land provides a safe-haven for many organisms, both marine and land-dwelling. It plays an active role in plant development, and in our case, food development… [cont.]

Asked by Maryy - Fri Oct 9 21:41:34 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If earth did not have a moon the tides would be negligible. There would be less beach erosion and the waters near the shore would tend to be more stagnant. There would be less mixing. The easiest way to explain the number of moons is gravity. More massive objects would tend to be more attractive than less massive objects. This attraction might also breed more collisions. The collisions and near misses can result in more fragments which could result in more moons A large, massive object has a great deal of kinetic energy which is forced to appear at single location on the earth if it hits. This vaporizes some of the dirt and in addition throws up huge clouds of dust. All this extra stuff in the atmosphere can temporarily blot… [cont.]

A. It gets into the atmosphere through evaporation, it wafts round as clouds and water vapor, then eventually precipitates out somewhere as rain or snow. This enters it into the biosphere, because every living thing on Earth needs water, and obviously in to the hydrosphere because... water is water. As moving water (streams, glaciers, etc.), it weathers and erodes the geosphere (the lithosphere is part of the geosphere). Deep down where rocks become sedimentary or metamorphosed, water also influences what kind of rock you get (as is also the case with cooling lava, but that's basically water at its first stage of entering the cycle). The atmosphere influences the water by adding and removing water from liquid water, often due to… [cont.]

Asked by xodanceox - Tue Nov 20 20:16:36 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 1. Global warming!!! Our carbon dioxide outputs are clogging up the atmoshphere and trapping heat, making the planet warmer. For more info search "greenhouse effect" or just "global warming" 2. No clue 3. Well, lithosphere refers to the stone covering a planet, biosphere is everywhere on the planet that has life, atmosphere is the gasses that surround a planet, and hydrosphere is all the water on the planet. So... don't quite know why it's different.
