What causes the outer core of the earth to be in a liquid state?
Q. In the original question the answer is supposed to come from looking at a diagram. It says-What information from the diagram supports the theory that the outer core of the earth is in the liquid state? Diagram shows crust, mantle, outer core, inner core, densities, pressure, temp and depth below surface of the earth.

How do I get an outer div to expand with the inner content in Firefox?
Q. It works fine in IE. The outer div, which is just the background color to differentiate from the page's background color, does not expand vertically (it has a width defined). The content inside the two divs within it will expand, and they expand, but the outer div does not. I can set the div a specific height, and the color will expand as it should. But I need the height to be based on the content, not set in the code. What do I do?

A. div containers expand according to content is no height is set, but you are setting other divs inside a main container. Think on it. Ron

What happens to electrons in the outer magnetosphere?
Q. I know that the outer radiation belt gathers charged particles from the solar wind but how do these charged particles affect Earth at the ground level or do they?
Asked by ivorytowerboy - Wed Aug 1 20:56:57 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Particles trapped in the radiation belts get swept toward either of the magnetic poles, north or south, depending on their charge. There they collide with atoms in the atmosphere at high altitude, which makes for a pretty light show we call an aurora. They pose little danger to us because, a) this only happens at extreme latitudes where people normally don't live anyways, and b) the collisions in the atmosphere absorb most of the particles before they reach the surface.

A. There is nothing in space to slow them down, so when the rockets are turned off they just continue to move with the same speed and in the same direction as when the rockets were firing.

How do I work out how many electrons are in the outer shell of an element?
Q. How can I work out how many electrons are in the outer shell of an element? The question: How many electrons are there in the outer shell of every group 13 element?
Asked by Sarah - Tue Jun 8 07:13:57 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. you have to use that diagram that shows the sequence of layers of electron by Linus Paulin. you distribute the electrons into the layers according to how many they support until you get to the last layer. here is an example of the diagram: if you follow the arrows you will see that you end up with 1 electron at 3p plus 2 electrons at 3s.. a total of 3 electrons at the outer shell. (the small numbers indicate the max of electrons supported in that orbit) edit: what the guy above said is also right and more simple.

Q. I have a lot of redish, small bumps on my legs that look like small pimples. I've tried poping them but they keep coming back. I'm guessing that they come from the soap I'm using, or my razor, or my nylons, but I'm not sure. They are on the outer side of my legs and I would what to know what they are, where do they come from, and possible solutions on how to get rid of them and prevent them from coming back.

A. Okay! Time to learn! Grab your Periodic Table(or get where you can see one) and lets take a look! The rows(horizontally aligned elements) are called "Periods". H and He are in Period 1; Li, Be, B, C, N, O, F and Ne are in Period 2; K, Ca, Sc, Ti... Br, and Kr are in Period 4; etc. The columns(vertically aligned) are called "Groups", and are identified by a Roman numeral followed by A or B. An atom's outer energy level, or shell, is called its valence level. That's what your looking for. In an electron configuration, the number (1-7) is the energy level, the lower-case letter (s,p,d,f or g)is the sublevel, and the superscript number (that's the little ones higher up than the others)is the number of electrons in that sublevel. It… [cont.]

A. without a specific problem to illustrate, just remember that the equation that defines the outside of the rotational object is the outer radius, and the equation the defines the inside is the inner radius. when you compute the volume integral, it's INT{ pi*(outer^2 - inner^2)}

Hows the weather in Outer Banks North Carolina during the month of November?

A. November can be cool. Average temps at the outer banks are in the 40's for lows and around 58-62 for highs, with about 3.5" of rain for November. It's always a beautiful place though, no matter what time of year. Good luck and congratulations on the wedding.

How can radio waves continue to travel for ever in outer space?
Q. How can radio waves continue to travel for ever in outer space? On earth the radio waves from your favorite radio or TV station will only go 100 miles or so at the very most, but NASA and Astronomers say that they will travel almost for ever, or at least Billions and Trillions of miles with out stopping. How is that possible?
Asked by Gerri R - Wed Nov 19 02:14:39 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Voyager 1 is so far from Earth in 1998 that it takes 9 hours 36 minutes for a radio signal traveling at the speed of light to reach Earth. Voyager's signal, produced by a 20 watt radio transmitter, is so faint that the amount of power reaching NASA's antennas is 20 billion times smaller than the power of a digital watch battery. Think that they will eventual fade into the noise of background radiation. We don't know if our signals can leave the Sun's magnetic heiloshpere

How long does it take for on outer ear infection to stop hurting?

Asked by anlmt - Fri Jul 14 21:46:14 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on alot of different factors. The type of bacteria, the seriousness of the situation, the strength of your immune system. These all come into play when it comes to infections. With the help of antibiotics, the pain should go away in 2-3 days (not always the case), and you should be fully healed after a 10-day dosage. Make sure you don't stop the antibiotics (if you're taking any) before the prescription is up. Otherwise, the infection could come back stronger than ever, and the previous antibitiocs you were using may be rendered useless against the resistant bacteria.

What is the difference between outer electrons and valence electrons?
Q. Example: Nickel 1s2,2s2,2p6,3s2,3p6,4s2, 3d8 which are valence and which are outer?
Asked by ROFLMAOLOL - Mon Sep 28 17:13:56 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The valence electrons and outer electrons are the same thing. They are the ones in the highest energy level; in the case of nickel, the two 4s electrons. Oddly enough, the 3d electrons have a higher energy level than the 4s orbital, and so they may enter into chemical reactions along with the 4s electrons, but the 4s electrons are those that are lost first when nickel combines chemically. Notice that the most common valence shown by nickel (and other transition metals) is +2. That comes from the two 4s electrons being lost first. Hope this helps.

A. Well hopefully you're not looking for a magic pill, because there's o such thing. But if you eat healthy (Fad diets are normally bad for you, especially low carb diets) and do more aerobic workouts(weightlifting is not going to make you lose fat too quick). Do a lot of body weight exercises, like make a goal of doing 100 bodyweight squats. Also a good one for outer thighs are to lie on your side and raise your leg up and down. Isometrics will also probably help a lot. as in do the side leg raise and hold it for 8 sec. at half way up and again at all the way up. One thing i can recommend is to take stacker 2 diet pills(one in the morning and one at night) and work out (you cant just take pills and expect amazing results) but when i was… [cont.]

Q. I want to buff out my upper pecs and outer pecs (side and bottom) please help me with this.
Asked by Sean - Thu Apr 22 19:50:20 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Do push-ups with your feet up on a chair. This will place the center of gravity slightly different and cause different fibers to be worked. Then do some push-ups with your hands slightly lower than shoulder width for the same reason. Also vary your hand placement from close together to slightly wider than shoulder width. And mix up all of these to help define the whole pec. Add some extra weight to your body so there is greater resistance during the push-ups. Do one superset to exhaustion every other day.

How do spaceships propel themselves in outer space?
Q. How do or can space ships increase their speed in outer space, since there is no air or gravity to propel them or achieve thrust from? Or do they just maintain the speed in which they were propelled from earth.
Asked by beastzer - Sun May 4 07:14:37 2008 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Thrust is achieved by the ignited propellant expanding and pushing against the engine it is blowing out of. When you blow up a balloon and let it go, it flies because the escaping air is providing an opposite force to its escape momentum. In other words, it would do the same thing in empty space.
